Tests of a potentially revolutionary cancer therapy have had "extraordinary" results on terminally ill patients, scientists have revealed.

The research, which took place at the Cancer Research Centre in Seattle USA, involves removing immune cells called T-cells from patients, tagging them with "receptor" molecules that target cancer, and putting them back into the body in an infusion.

In one study, more than nine out of ten participants with a severe form of leukaemia and a life expectancy of 3-5 months.....saw their symptoms completely vanish. From a medical perspective I am quite stunned at this news.

Yes, it's in it's infancy and there are no figures as to how long the remission lasts....however the implications for the use of this treatment in other cancers is quite overwhelming.

Currently only trialled on patients with leukaemia and other blood cancers @Anonymous.but genetically modifying blood cells may well be the way forward for other 'block' tumours.

It will be a sad (even criminal) step if the USA have to stop their research. However, similar work is being undertaken in the UK so we will see it moving forward.
