dancing on ice 23.png

I have all the info about the new series which starts in January 2023.

I will write about the contestants later but wanted to get the thread started.

The judges are Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill, Oti Mabuse and Ashley Banjo.

Presenters are unchanged with Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield.

We appear to only have 11 contestants this year, unless they have another one, yet to be revealed?

Checking them over, there will many comments such as 'Who the  hell are they?'

All I will say, until my next post, we have

A Drag Artist

A The Wanted band member

A Love Island Contestant

An actress from Corrie

A retired Footballer

An Olympian

A Liberty X singer

A Comedian

A Hollyoaks actress

A Towie 'star'

An Actress ( retired) from Eastenders (now a DJ)

More to follow .... (I bet you can't wait @Mi-Amigo @sheepdog) 😂

Do I know a couple of those names?

A few - Michelle, John, Joey, Patsy and The Vivienne (wife watches Drag Race).

Am I interested?
Not in the slightest!

Ahh but...does your other half like Dancing on Ice @gmarkj?

If so, you may have to use a spare TV in another room every Sunday for a few weeks.😂

The Professionals.

We wont see Hamish Gamin again this year. His career seems to have taken a real tumble after his unfortunate partnership with that godawful Caprice a couple of years ago.

The professional skaters lined-up to take part in the 2023 series were announced on 28th October 2022. As well as some returning favourites, there was a brand new face announced, in the form of world-class ice dancer Olivia Smart, who is fresh out of the 2022 Winter Olympics!

Olivia will join returning professionals Sylvain Longchambon, Vicky Ogden and Klabera Komini, Matt Evers, Alexandra Schauman and husband Łukasz Różycki, Mark Hanretty, Brendyn Hatfield, Vanessa Bauer, Tippy Packard and Colin Grafton. (Only 11 pro's so maybe that's it?)

The pairings are yet to be announced by ITV, however we have been assured the confirmation is coming soon!

The show begins!

Only six will skate tonight and their marks will be carried over to next week. After the remaining couples skate, the bottom two will face the skate off and one will be eliminated.

Write up will follow after this 😂

I wont be criticising the judges clothes (as per SCD) as Holly always looks great, so did Jayne and Oti. However,  Ashley looked as if he was doing the school run. Didn't bother dressing up at all.😂

Good opening number by the professionals, although the contestants looked weird up on the round box, jigging along to the music.

Joey Essex and Vanessa. Skated to Mack the Knife by Robbie Williams

We could see that Joey has skated before from the way he entered the ice in the intro

A good confident skate from him. No obvious mistakes but he needs to learn to place his feet better after rotations. Scored 27.

Patsy Palmer and Matt Evers. Skated to Ride on Time by Black Box.

Looked like a rabbit in the headlights. Very nervous skate. Made many mistakes. Scored 21

Siva Kaneswaran and Klabera. Skated to Rio by Duran Duran

(Nice to see one of his bandmates Jay McGuinness who won SCD)

Siva has never skated before but a good first effort. Nice glide and flow over the ice Scored 24

Ekin- Su and Brendyn. Skated to Toxic by Britney

Mmmmmm...maybe thought 'sex sells'....😂 She stumbled a lot, not confident on her own at all. A few lifts covered up the fact she wasn't actually skating Scored 21.5

Michelle Heaton and Lucasz. Skated to Waking up Dreaming by Shania Twain.

Unfortunately I missed a lot of this which was a shame as I thought she would be the best of the girls. Something must have gone wrong because the only thing I saw was her apologising at the end to Lucasz.

Scored 19.0

Nile Wilson and Olivia Smart. Skated to Sign of the Times by Harry Styles

What an excellent skate. Matching crossovers great. Looked a real natural Scored 29.5.

A lovely second skate by professionals. Loved it.

An  appearance by Bez to try and tell us about the competition was a waste of time.

Well what a fool I am. Totally missed out info on the public vote 😂

*Coughs*.... So after they all lined up expectantly, Ekin-Su and Brendyn were voted into the skate off for next week. She wasn't happy about that at all.

A good opening show. Roll on next week.

Thank you for the write-up @Cleoriff

In my opinion, the best skaters of the night were Nile and Olivia.

I was pleasantly surprised at Joey Essex. In other shows he has come over as playing a fool but seemed to be taking DOI seriously and even if he has skated before, was a good effort.

I thought there were poor, or not so-good, performances by Patsy Palmer, Michelle Heaton, and Ekn-Su; and agree with the vote that Ekin-Su is in the skate-off in next week`s show.

Well I won't miss the opportunity to do a fashion report 🤣 Lets start with Oti - nice hair though dress bordering on Motsi territory. Also bordering on Motsi superlatives 🤔 Jayne actually looked amazing. As for Ashley's haircut, lets just say I couldn't get past this:

how-many-dumb-and-dumber-movies-are-there

Best unintentional joke of the night goes to Chris Dean: "Jayne was squeezing me hard in a lift" whilst describing his little finger in a black plaster cast.

Holly kind of went for the mermaid look but both of them in black didn't work. Thankfully not as annoying as previous years. As for the opening routine, my goodness, my eyes are bleeding from all that neon! A bit uncoordinated as well but the light show is pretty good.

Onto first impressions:

Joey Essex: strong contender and pretty decent opening performance. Knows how to act the fool so will have that edge over the series. Did notice he has rather long hands hovering over Vanessa's shoulder.

Patsy Palmer: oh dear. Hopeful not this series pity vote and hopefully the judges won't be as accommodating. Needs to gain speed or she's be going out rather rapidly.

Siva Kaneswaran: hmm, one to improve as the weeks go on I think. If he can match Joey then this could be good.

Ekin Who? A "developed personality" with the aid of a credit card. Pretty awful in fact and that's just the outfit. Tacky might be the word.

Michelle Heaton: Seems to be auditioning for a part in Real Housewives of Reality TV given the layers of make-up she had on in the intros. Admittedly I did start to drop off when she skated so it was a struggle to keep awake. But it wasn't good.

Nile Wilson: Completely dropped off so was unaware he'd skated till the results were announced.

Bez: pointless as usual and we have more pointless celebs flogging a premium rate number for a prize haul over the next few months.

Lets see if next week brings any surprises.

WEEK 2 - 22 Jan

Opening = Professional skaters skating to Dancin` Fool

Celebrities =

The Vivienne + Colin skating to Strong Enough

scores - Ashley 7.0; Oti 7.0; Jane 7.5; Chris 7.5 = 28.5

Surprisingly good performance. agree with judges scores

John Fashanu + Alexandra skating to Eat My Goal

scores = Ashley 5.0; Oti 5.0; Jane 4.5; Chris 4.5 = 19

Poor performance, as Chris said lot of standing not a lot of skating. agree with judges scores

Mollie Gallagher + Sylvian skating to Angel Eyes

scores = Ashley 6.5; Oti 6.5; Jane 6.5; Chris 7.0 = 26.5

Good performance. agree with Chris`s score; others underscored

Darren Harriett + Tippy skating to Fireball

scores = Ashley 6.5; Oti 6.5; Jane 6.5; Chris 7.0 = 26.5

Good performance, but not as good as Mollie. agree with most judges but Chris overscored

Carley Stenton + Mark skating to Say You Love Me

scores = Ashley 8.0; Oti 8.0; Jane 8.0; Chris 8.0 = 32.0

So do we have this year`s judges favourite ? Sorry, in my opinion overscored. Good turns but no solo skating.

The performance I enjoyed the most was Mollie + Sylvian.

After the break, Jane and Chris did lovely skate to Higher.

Public votes added to judges votes.

Celebrities through to next week - MUSICALS WEEK

The Vivienne + Colin; Mollie + Sylvian; Darren + Tippy; Carley + Mark

Skate-off = Ekin-Su + Brendyn [from last week] v John Fashanu + Alexandra [this week]

Judges vote = Ashley; Oti; Jane [head judge] voted to save - Ekin-Su.

Voted off = John Fashanu

I agree Ekin-Su`s performance was better than John`s.

Looking forward to next week...
