My cat Marty's been to the vets today, he's not been himself
Long story cut short = his kidneys are slightly enlarged
He has lost weight 5:35kg, but actually looks bigger around his middle
Blood test(s) are normal
He was very easy to get into cat carry basket = very unusual
He was very meek & mild in the vets = very unusual
He didn't make any noise in the taxi(s)
We had a nice old-style snuggle this afternoon
Still eating well
Currently in his new 'safe place' on the spare bed in a nest of his own making = the far side of the bed
I am relieved ... but the vet says we'll watch him
Cost £77:50 including 20% discount ... I have him on PDSA scheme ... & He's Worth It every penny I spend on him

Pleased to hear Marty is ok @Anonymous
Did the vet give any reason why the kidneys should be enlarged?

Hi @Cleoriff ... the vet asked questions like did I notice if Marty was drinking more ... well ... he used only to drink out of the bird bath on the outside table ... but ... because he can no longer jump that height he's been using his own water bowl & it's rather often dry ... I had put this down to his recent liking to Whiskers dry biscuits (I'd been giving him premium Royal Canin Exigent = for fussy eaters) ... = ... biscuits always been down but Marty only eats them under protest ... he eats 2 pouches of wet food per day, sometimes 3 = he lets me know ... vet asked about his poo, he won't use a litter tray & goes outside for his ablutions, with the odd accident his poo is sloppy ... She did a thorough job of examining him = taking temperature + weighing him + checking heart + feeling his body which was then she told me Marty's kidneys are slightly enlarged = she didn't say why & I didn't think to ask? ...

@AnonymousIt's not a problem. He may have always had enlarged kidneys Jane.
As long as he is drinking ok and peeing all is fine.
The vet examined him very well, so like you and me. he is probably pretty fed up with the weather!

@Cleoriff read your kind / understanding / knowledgeable / thoughtful post on my mobile phone as an email late last night ... thank you
I didn't remember to say Marty let out a sharp meow when the vet was examining the area between his tummy & backside, it was a cry ... sorry about me forgetting to say
He is behaving oddly around the house ... = ... he went out at 1:15am BST last night, I called him at 6:50am GMT
He frequently dosses in the house all day only to want to go out at hight
Normally he has a special way to wake me up = not that I'm getting much sleep right now with one thing & another
Marty has started giving little pathetic meows about the house
On Friday night he did the slow blink thing = this for the 1st time
Last night he jumped on and settled by the side of me = sicking-up a bit on my best M&S fluffy dressing gown = am I bovvered?
He is thankfully still there now = looking settled
Earlier in the year, Marty in the spare bedroom (where my laptop is on a pc workstation) in a nest made on an old wooden desk
