Carphone Warehouse offer - Is it a scam?

Anonymous
Not applicable

How do I know if Ive been scammed?

I was phoned by someone who said that as I have been an o2 customer for a long time, I can have unlimited calls and texts 1gb of internet and a new Samsung Gallaxy Ace phone. I didnt have to give them any bank details, just dob name and address. Only after I was put through to someone called the verification manager, did I start to wonder if it WAS o2. No apparently a subsid of Carphone Warehouse. I have accepted but fear I may have been scammed somehow, although without my bank details, Im not sure how? Any ideas?

It might have been CPW but taking an offer from anyone over the phone is I believe not a good move.

I hope it was genuine, I always believed O2 subsidiaries weren't supposed to do this.

We can't tell from here whether it's genuine or not.

You really should call Carphone Warehouse and confirm what you've done. You would still have a cooling off period to cancel whatever you agreed to if you're unsure. Never give your name, dob, and address to anyone who calls you, no matter how official they sound.

I know it was foolish but I thought it was O2 and they said it was to verify who I was!

Sorry to say it but a lot of people have claimed its a scam.

Id advise informing your bank as a precaution as well as keeping a close eye on your outgoings from your account.

Let us know if anything happens and you need some advise. A few people have been caught out also so youre not alone dont worry :(.

O2 would never phone and ask you to verify anything, it's possibly these people (although they could have changed their number), make a note as this may be removed:

Versatile Marketing

St James Court, 30 Brown st, Manchester, M2 1DH

Their main number is one digit out from the one you posted it ends 7800, so it's almost certainly them.

If you have given your details to these people you should contact your bank as soon as you possibly can with the name and address that Perksie posted, and make sure that no funds are being asked for from that company or any other company that you haven't signed an agreeement with.
