Carphone Warehouse offer - Is it a scam?

How do I know if Ive been scammed?

I was phoned by someone who said that as I have been an o2 customer for a long time, I can have unlimited calls and texts 1gb of internet and a new Samsung Gallaxy Ace phone. I didnt have to give them any bank details, just dob name and address. Only after I was put through to someone called the verification manager, did I start to wonder if it WAS o2. No apparently a subsid of Carphone Warehouse. I have accepted but fear I may have been scammed somehow, although without my bank details, Im not sure how? Any ideas?

I haven't but it will depend on who you gave your details to, CPW or a crook.

I've never been caught out. No one has ever called me with anything like that. I would never give anyone any details over the phone unless I was calling them and knew who I was speaking to.

Hi

I have made the same stupid mistake and said yes to a new phone. But I did not give my bank details, just my name, address and date of birth. Im sick in the stomach that I will now be at risk for identity fraud.

Has anything happened to people yet who have been fooled by the same scam?????

It may not be a scam at all, but why would you give your details to anyone who phones you out of the blue?

Hopefully your new phone and account updates will appear soon.

You're unlikely to be at risk with the details you have given.

Why would you give your name, address, and date of birth to a complete stranger over the phone? Yes you are at risk if you've done that. You'll just have to stay alert for anything being bought using your details.

Did you get a contact number from them? Or a company name? The person's name you were speaking to?

Person's name was Kate and Company name of the Customer number they gave me was 'Elite' or something like that. They said they were Carphone warehouse. One person has told me they had the same call and it actually was Carphone warehouse and they did get their phone and everything is fine....but I'm still worried. I'll just keep a watch.
