A question about 21st century communication using mobile electronic devices

talking 1 to 1 in real life = having a verbal conversation together ..... only 7% of the words you speak count ie the rest is made up of tone of voice + facial expression + body language

now ..... let's consider/discuss personal communication using mobile electronic devices without the voice input or photos or eg Skype ..... how do you get the nuances across without tone of voice + facial expression + body language

I bow to my 'superiors' on here, as I am surprisingly new to modern day technology

I'm not Gadget Man

nor do I have to have the latest in any/every new mobile electronic device eg don't have the cash for one thing or the desire or the immense know-how to use them all 

I'd just be very interested to hear the regulars on here, & any others, their opinions please

Thankfully I don't have many text messages to deal with as I have been on the wrong end of the beating stick when I shouldn't have been due to mis-comprehension.I refuse to use and won't use text abbreviations. No real need to these days with unlimited texts and predictive typing.

These days, I tend to write emails in a PC kind of way ensuring I'm clear else I tend not to reply till I've read it two or three time before hitting send then on occassion completely rewrite it removing the constructs implying something else.

Sometimes there's a large slice of cynical sarcasm running through it but not obvious unless you know me in person 😉

hi @sheepdog how absolutely  to have a post from you 

I don't know you & I don't do subtle so the cynical sarcasm bit would escape me 

however ..... as a retired office worker who did get used to wordprocessing (data entry now?) I do now see with dismay how many people key in, then don't check at least once their composition 

I came a cropper big style earlier this year when a young person on my GP's reception transposed 2 figures in my phone number = I was very ill & kept hanging on un-necessarily for quite a few weeks for required treatment ..... I'm certainly not above the odd error, but I believe in today's world incorrect data entry is common 

PS: I can't get along with predictive text & keep away from it

Hmmm.  Cynicism  - ok.  Sarcasm- ok (hasn't it been defined as "the lowest form of humour but the highest form of wit"? but not, I understand by Oscar Wilde)  But,  "cynical sarcasm" - that is taking things to a new level, so you really must MAKE it more obvious!  Don't be wasting it merely on those who know you in person.  Share!  It  is after all the season for giving.
