Beware of scammers phoning you to say they are from O2. they have access to details of your account including your billing amount and ask for payment then the scam continues, they take payment from your card having pretended to be O2 and tect back a so called receipt of payment which is headed as UK which was the reason we then found out the scam. They have an automated sytem when you call them back claimimg to be O2 bill payment. Watch out for the following numbers calling you
08001116121
08009524874
They have access to your personal details which they must have hacked from O 2
take care

Aerial by any other name mate......
Yes appreciate that - but at least it is traceable and not quite as serious as the OP makes it to be, clearly no hacking has taken place - though I suspect those who have been 'Aerialised' may disagree!
It does appear that our personal information is being shared far too widely and too many external companies now have our details.

And clearly from the date of the link, this is old news. If you speak to cold callers, and agree with details they give you, who's to blame if you get charged for it?

I think he probably had a miss call from Virgin media recently, didn't know who it belonged to and assumed it was the same thing.
For some reason when he called the payment line he though it was not legit and probably got a bit scared because he had just used his card.
My guess...

No hacking involved. ...All down to O2 and 'trusted ' partners....trust has been abused so often by O2!

Just adopt my rule - if it's a cold call treat it as hostile!

Just out of interest I will make a freedom of information request and ask to see who exactly O2 have given my details too.
EDIT: No I won't as the legislation does not apply to O2!
