o2 giving out customers details ?

Anonymous
Not applicable
I've had 2 calls in two days this week. one from 01524484934 and other from 01422701953.

On this page , http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/01524484934 , it's all O2 customers getting called.

I answered the 01422 call and was asked if I'm on contract or Simplicity, so they know I'm on o2.

I don't like my details being given out (I don't wish to be on the new mobile directory either). *** me off if o2 are selling my personal information.

I'd like to know exactly information is sold or given out.

O2 ARE giving out customer phone numbers- I know this for a fact because I use a contract taken out in my mothers name. She has never used this number, and any use online has been in my name. O2 are the only company that have her name assosiated with this number- this MUST stop! I do not agree to my details being passed on to third parties!

Hi @Anonymous

Firstly you can stop these unwanted calls by going into MyO2 and change your marketing preferences

Also if you are really annoyed about this you could put in a complaint http://www.o2.co.uk/how-to-complain

If you don't opt out you give permission by default. It's your choice and under your control.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
Please select the post that helped you best and mark as the solution. This helps other members in resolving their issues faster. Thank you.

Your number is shared....fact. But not just O2, all the commodity companies, all the social sites and anyone you give your number to. Opting out works on o2....Eventually,  but how many companies, hospitals, doctors surgeries or utility companies have your number? Active phone sharing is big business these days and opting for privacy means nothing to the overseas scammers waiting for you to fall victim.

This is 2015 and I think we need to all go live in caves or understand and accept that privacy has long, long gone.

You are tracked everywhere, I haven't told any utility company where I am but they all know. Mobile phones took away all thoughts of anonymity.  Bin it or accept it. No problem for me, I have developed many ways of saying go forth and multiply.

You have an email address and no doubt your spam filter can't cope with the amount of crap you get. This is life now.....but ask yourself, is it a real problem compared to anything else happening in your world? If so, you are very lucky....

Agree or not, opting out on O2 will mean very little. It's default anyway that o2 will share your number. One day, one week, too late....shared with trusted partners who share with the world. It's not life changing, it's no real problem....block the number and get on with life in the knowledge that intelligence, be it British or USA know where you are, home or in the pub or having an illicit affair.
