numbers being changed to start with 44+

Anonymous

Hi all.  i am finding out more about Ariel direct.  but it appears that the numbers in my phone are being changed without my knowledge or consent.  the numbers chane to start with 44, and this allows them to charge me more apparently.  is anyone else suffering from this?  i believe it is contray to the data protection Act.  whatever, it should not be happening.

+44 is just the country code for the UK - the numbers in effect are just being stored in 'international format' instead of with the 0 in front - this is not a way to 'charge you extra'.

If it's a new phone, it's just the backup storing them that way. There is no extra charges by sending to +44 instead of 0

It doesn't cost anymore to call a +44 number unless you are calling from outside of the UK.

And if you do travel abroad it is much better to have them stored in that format. You will have no problems connecting a call

You're being overcharged because aerial put you on a business plan (so you can't cancel) and like all business plans, prices exclude vat until it is added on the bill.
