First thing to try is cleaning the sim card.
Check for local problems using your postcode here : O2 Status
If all is ok then try going into settings>general>reset >reset network settings
If that doesn't work try a reset of the phone by holding the home and the power button down until the Apple logo appears then release the buttons.

Hi,
Check with 02 Customer Services on 202 {contract} or 4445 {payg} that your account is Ok.
Ensure your mesaging centre has not somehow been changed.
It should be ;
Message service centre settings
Remember to check that the message centre number starts with +44 and not 0044
here is how to check and if required change it.
*#5005*7672#
this tells you the message centre number installed in the handset
##5005*7672#
this deletes the message centre number.
Then
**5005*7672*+447802092035# (for payg customers)

What have 02 Uk Customer Services said when you telephoned them ?
I suggest you may need to pick up a replacement blank sim card.
Another option is to replace your current Sim Card by picking up a blank Sim Card from your local 02 shop, or ask for one to be posted to you.
Then carry out the SwapMySim procedure.
I have included the link to do this.
Take into account it takes from approx 2 hours to 24 hours to fully activate, and by turning your phone off and on throughout this period helps to reset your services.
Also perhaps seeking a diagnostic via an Apple Genius Bar wont harm.

I went in to local O2 store as advised and advised by O2 customer services for the sales assistant to put his hands in the air and say he was not touching phone as iPhone and I hadn't purchased at shop-told him I had been advised I may need another sim he asked when I purchased phone told him February and he said sim too new for me to be issued with another sim! So now off on 45 mile trip to apple store where hopefully will get better customer service!
Hi,
I'm sorry but you've been fobbed off by an employee who simply just wants to be there to open new contracts !
If it was me i'd firstly not be leaving the shop without a blank sim, and I would be filling out this complaint online form !
A blank sim can be picked up at any stage no matter how long you've had the original !
Did you get the iPhone 5 as part of a contract or payg with 02 ?
Lets hope the true professionals at the Apple Store can help you.
Have you made a Genius Appointment ?
If not lets hope they have a Genius free to see you !
Let us know how you get on.

Well then it shouldn't matter whether you picked up the handset from that shop or another or had it delivered from an online upgrade / new contract your still entitled to a reasonable service in that shop.
If a Guru in store was busy then you could have returned if they gave you that option.
In my local 02 shop an employee has a clipboard and takes some details of your issue and passes you onto a Guru or shop employee when they are free.
