when i first joined o2 (when went broadband), i signed up for upto 20mb download am still paying for same. but tests say i now only getting 9.8mb. at first was getting 19.21mb when sign up, then get the upgrade box, it goes to 14.25mb.complain they send me their newer box and then get 17.68mb so thought good enough for me. but now found i'm only getting  9.8mb  if this way they treat loyal customers it not way to get new ones.

I doubt it's O2 causing this as they don't restrict your line, more likely a line or exchange fault, which package are you using?

The broadband section is here:

https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Home-Broadband-Home-Phone/bd-p/8

Try giving the O2 Box a hard reset by pushing in the button at the back until the lights go out.

Connect it to the test socket behind the lower half of the BT master socket and post your stats back in the broadband section:

http://www.o2help.co.uk/router-statistics/

If you have an analogue phone try a quiet line test by ringing 17070 option 2, any noise should be reported to your phone line provider as a voice fault.

i'm on allrounder and tried all the resets etc amonly 5-600 metres from bt exchange have been told by 3 different isp's that can get 26+mbs and bt say that infinity is available. so only conclusion is i'm being capped or the so called best boxes are crap. i'm paying for the alrounder up to 20mbs i think should get rebate as only getting up to 10mbs as charge less for getting the basic as say get up to 16mbs or 10mbs.

Check  http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/speedtest/ for the best connection in your area. There are so many factors involved in creating a good broadband connection. Im highly suspect many can offer you 21mb+ stable broadband. I'd happily take consistent 9mb any day over a 21mb connection that's throttled to 5mb during peak times or its only one day a month you break double figure speeds.

Have you tested at different times of day? If your basing these speed restrictions on rush hour traffic I hate you as your connection is considerably faster than mine at peak haha.

But seriously check the area stats to see how you compare. Also are these low speeds all day long?

Edited: because autocorrect hates me!:(

Adsl2+ only goes up to 24Mbps, so you will never get 26Mbps and the O2 connection is not advertised at that speed,if you are connected by wi-fi 10Mbps is about right, try it on ethernet.

What faultfinding have you tried?

It's impossible to come to any conclusion without the line stats from the test socket.

If you're not prepared do try some basic faultfinding you will never solve the problem.

You pay for up to 20mb there is no guarantee you will get 20mb, If your using wifi use insidder programme check which are the most used channels in your area.

Somehow I don't think it is resolved, but good luck anyway.
