Hi, I am travelling to southeast asia for 2 months and just want to know whether I can use my phone there.. obv I will turn off roaming and only use Internet in WiFi areas but what if I want to send a text? Will the charges be extra, or will I just get a text like you do when you travel in Europe stating the charges? Basically do I need to do anything special in order to use my phone in this part of the world.

One of our colleagues travels to Thailand frequently. He uses Skype and Messenger over Wifi to keep in touch with family and friends and also uses http://www.o2.co.uk/apps/world-chat the World Chat app

Another option is to get your phone unlocked and use a local sim

Thank you 😊 that's perfect. Will probably just send the odd text to let parents know I'm ok if I can't get a WiFi zone otherwise won't really use it. 40p a text is reasonable enough 👍
