The iPhone 4 Upgrade Offer

Anonymous

Hi, i know this may have already been posted and answered, for that i apologies.

But basically at the moment im reading mixed reports that o2 are offering the upgrade to all customers still under contact and other reports stating that this offer only applies to those who are under an iPhone contact.

Im hoping the latter is not the case as my contact run out in January and i stated as i knew the iPhone 4 would be coming out in the near future that i would want to get this upon its release. The gentleman who done my upgrade said that this would be fine and basically describe what by the looks of things is the special limited time offer that o2 are going to offer, the only thing is though the upgrade i got, gave me a blackberry as i already had the 3gs.

So to sum up im just wondering if anyone knows of the criteria of this special upgrade? or am i just being inpatient?

Thanks

Lloyd

Hi,

Im wondering how you will buy your phone outright when the new sim cards are different in that they are a mini sim? How will you use your old sim card with your new phone?

So my question is this:

I know I have to pay X amount as part of the upgrade offer which I have no problem doing. I was wondering if it can paid at an O2 store when I pick up the phone or have I got to do it over the phone and order the phone with them?

I have tried reading the terms of the deal but they aren't entirely clear on this matter and bearing in mind my store is 10 miles away, long way to go to get sent home.

Cheers

Sorry folks,
I am going to cut through all this chat about early upgrade fee and point out something very important.
Has anyone taken any notice of the data limit they will implement if you upgrade....NO
Well I have had a good look over the info they have posted and from my understanding. You will have a limit of 500mb more or less from 1st October 2010 depending on your tarrif. They have realised we are benifiting to much from the unlimited data tarrif and will now start charging us to if we go over or give us the option to bolt on more data/surf time for an extra fee. It's all in the details. take a good look folks. If this is the case I will not be upgrading and I will purchase my phone out right whilst keeping my exsisting tarrif which has unlimited data+Wi-Fi

The tiltle does say smart phone, but I beleieve this applies to the iPhone.

I was sent a link to a chat with the guy from O2 that imposed the cull on the 'unlimited data'. He claims that 3% of it's networks users are going above and beyond the 'fair usage' amount which in turn is ruining it for the rest of us.

I seem to remember a recent court room discussion where Sky dropped their fair usage policy because the courts ruled that 'unlimited' means just that and fair usage policies shouldn't come into practice. Sky immediately dropped their fair usage line and they are rumoured to be the ONLY ISP that is completely unlimited.

Surely they shouldn't have made it 'unlimited'? What irks me the most is that they do nothing to cut down the heavy users, they just punish everyone.

It reminds me of a policy my dad had, as a kid I had 2 brothers and if one of us did something wrong which no-one would admit to, dad would punish all 3 of us 'to make sure he got the right one'. Sound familiar? Only difference is though, O2 can see who's doing it but punishing everyone.

I have just looked at my iphone and reset the counters last night to see how much data ive used. reset at 9.51pm last night. ive looked at ebay a few times and have location services switched on and spent about 30mins surfing as of 10.15 this morning my data usage was 2.8mb sent 7.9mb recieved. push mail is on i cannot believe the amount of data being used doing nothing. i am going to reset again and leave the phone for 2 hours just doing absolutely nothing and see how much data it uses. This maybe a major problem if the os is creaming data on location services push etc without me knowing what the hell is going on. PS I suggest that anyone who doesn't like the new tarifs, removing unlimited data and making the monthly usages so low, requests their PAC code. at least this will keep your options open for tuesday and may make o2 consider their very low data caps. :robotmad: :robotsad:

Erm. O2 are not "punishing everyone". They are introducing a cap that will punish the small minority of heavy users, and have no real effect on the vast majority of people who have normal use.

No, in theory, they are punishing everyone. Every now has to adhere to the same rules irrespective of whether they are under the cap or not. Don't get me wrong, I am all for it, i'm not blinkered and always knew unlimited wasn't unlimited.

Good luck on that one:

Free allowances:
O2: 500MB / 750MB / 1GB (tariff-dependent) extra 500Mb = £5, extra 1GB = £10
Vodafone: 500Mb / 1GB (tariff-dependent)
T-Mo: 1GB
Orange: 500Mb
Three: 500Mb & 10p / MB over (=£100 / Gb)

On paper O2 are just as generous as other companies.

Just makes me wonder how many people are put their tail between their legs and stick with O2 despite their ramblings about the data cap.

I am prepeared to stay with o2, it all depends on handset cost, this will decide how i go about it, PAYG is looking the best option for me personally

all i want to know is this:

If i use early upgrade is the phone itself free? And on what tarif.
what is the price on PAYG? will they sell them PAYG on day 1?

I think people need to better understand why O2 are offering this early upgrade. All they want to do is get everyone out of unlimited contracts ASAP...thats why they are offering it. They want unlimited destroyed and they want you with a new iphone paying more for less!...good thing i have a 3g dongle with my mac!
