Spam sent to O2 forum email address

Anonymous
Not applicable
This morning I received a spam/phishing email sent to the address I used to sign up to O2 forums. I've not used this email address for anything else, and it's unlikely it would be randomly guessed. I use a different email address for most things I sign up to online.
The email title is "Your account opening is completed" and supposedly from Commonwealth Bank.
Is there an admin I should report this too, and has anyone else had similar experience?
My email address is not shown in my profile.

Same here, and is on an email address used only for o2, never used anywhere else. Something has been compromised somewhere. As you can see I've never even posted in the forum before

So are you saying it's your O2 (main site) registered email address rather than an email address used for just the O2 Forum ?

spammers use all sorts of methods to generate email addresses for a valid domain. When a combination works the bit before the @ will be used against other domains and distributed as a valid email address. Just delete and ignore the spam or let your isp spam filter do its job.
I doubt that it is a breach in security etc
But If you are concerned that your details have come from a breach you are best talking to o2 or any other company that you feel has let your email address slip directly and not in a customer forum.

I've had an o2 email address for over 13 years and never had a spam email yet so I have no reason to suspect that o2 sell or pass on my details to any spammers. As Adam says, just delete or filter them.

But where do they state or even suggest that O2 have sold or passed on details to spammers ?
The inference in stevyjones post which I was questioning, was that O2 deliberately released data to spammers which is totally wrong as it's illegal.
We all know that this current forum has been exploited by outsiders so I would imagine that it's a relatively simple procedure for those same outsiders to hack into the O2 forum database and steal email addresses to perpetuate their spamming activities.

I received both these emails twice.
One copy of each to the email address I used originally to sign up to this forum and one copy of each to the email address used for my current login.
It does seem kinda suspicious.

I'm also receiving a lot of eMail spam that I know can only have come from someone having access my 02 account details, not my forum account.  Firstly this is my first Forum post so there is no historical data to be mined.  Secondly the name by which they address me is ONLY found in my O2 registered name.  When my O2 account was created, on buying my phone, the sale rep mis-typed my name as "Kevins".  I am recieving spam email from all over the place addressed to "Kevins".

I've contacted 02 by the provided live chat feature to report this significant breach of thier security and was fobbed off.  Hence my post on this public forum to ensure that this issue has visibility and hopefully to prompt a reasonable conversation about how my data has been compromised and the implications under the Data protection act etc and to ensure O2 put in place something to stop this happening.

Highly unlikely anything has been compromised as it's fairly easy for this to happen.

Don't reply and put the address in your spam folder which should help.

Hi Kevin,

I have sent you a Private message.

I'll now close this thread as it's about an older issue.
