I tried contacting O2 today to unlock an old O2 iPhone. They wanted to verify my account. I explained my account was closed yesterday so am no longer a customer so don’t have an account. They asked me a security question anyway as they said I still had an account. Apparently I got it wrong (my favourite animal, which has 5 letters) they asked me two letters done but then asked for the 8th letter (my animal has 5 letters!)
Because of this they would not unlock the phone as they said my account could not be verified. They checked my address and they sent a code to my email too which I gave back correctly.
I then asked to change my security question… they said you can’t do that as you don’t have an account any longer…
How the hell do I get them to unlock this damn phone for free (which it says on their website they will do) which is locked to them?
No wonder everyone is now leaving them!
Thanks 🙏

The answer here is to HUCA (Hang Up Call Again) and speak to someone who may have an ounce of sense, if you can still access myo2 then you can request it in there .
The guide below will help as well

Thank you, I did just that in the hope that I could by pass that security question and answer another. I explained what happened earlier and was told that’s good as I was about to ask for the 10th letter!
Next I was asked my house number and postcode… you’d think I would know that having lived at the same address for 18 years… Alas apparently I don’t as that was wrong aswell 🤷♀️
When told them I couldn’t access the app to change details etc I was told that’s because I had been disconnected 🤷♀️
My only option now is apparently to visit an O2 store on person because they won’t ask me security questions… go figure!!!

Other option is to put an O2 PAYG SIM in and run it for a couple of weeks till it is well registered on the system
If you create an O2 account for that you should then be able to get the code via MyO2

The store will ask you security questions and will also text your o2 number with a code.. so sorry CS have told you a load of BS
The other option is to pop down to your local phone shop and ask them if they can unlock it and pay about £10

iPhones have to be unlocked on Apple's servers, not on the handset, so not sure if the average phone repair shop can do them?
Best way is an O2 PAYG sim for a few days to re-register with a new MyO2 and go from there.
