Recieving Calls and Text's Regarding Debt Advertising

To start... the phone that i have is in my mums account name. and i obviously dont have the same name as my mum.

(I wasn't old enough to start my own account (I am now by the way) - Awaiting contract end.

Who has my phone number?

(alot of people i will accept this, so im bound to get trashy spam.)

Who knows my mothers name online apart from O2?

(no one, because she doesnt do anything else online, apart from Bank)

where is the only place that me and my mum have an account that links my phone number with her name.

My suspicions... O2 is selling your details to trashy companies to spam your phones.

Maybe an app? Unfortunatly almost everything these days is recorded and used to advertise. You can buy lists of mobiles numbers and names rather easily they just tend to spam their lists until they get a correct one. Once they have they then sell it to other companies I highly doubt O2 would do this.

the app (which goes through iTunes (Apple) Apple App Store) wouldn't have access to my mothers name on my O2 Account, unless O2 allows apple to access it, and then allows the people making these apps access to extract that information. No. incorrent.

I've started getting an increased amount this week too along with my wife (ex O2 contract number but now transferred). I think a recent sale of details has happened.....

You need to obtain an explanation in writing from O2. If you are not saisfied with that explanation then you can complain to Information Commissioner's Office.

As all spam sms forward to the spam line 7726 this allows o2 to collate repeat offenders and block the numbers

Unless your Mother's actual real name was quoted in the texts you received, it is highly unlikely it's due to your number being passed on by o2 or anyone else for that matter.
Spammers (Debt Management companies, PPI mis-selling management companies etc etc) generate random 11 digit mobile numbers and then just text millions of them. By the law of averages there will be a lot of those randomly generated numbers that are *real*.
The simplest thing to do is install an excellent security app such as Comodo Mobile Security and has an excellent 'block' facility for calls and/or texts. Just add the number from which you received spam texts or calls to the 'black list'. Works a treat for me on my android samsung galaxy S2.

Plus One here, SMS spam to my mobile personalised with details from my O2 account and PPI spam to the email account tied to my O2 account. (If it was random, I'd be getting email to other accounts and non existent accounts) What address did you use at O2 to complain to? Any joy with replies?
