Leaving O2 (anyone else feeling the same?)

I know this has been discussed a few times before but i just wanted to see if anyone was getting the same impression from O2 that i have been getting?

I have been an O2 Pay monthly customer for 6 years , my average monthly spend across this period has been £50 a month. before taking out the monthly contract i was a PAYG customer for 3 years regularly updating my phone and topping up at least £20 a month.

I have had no problems with the service recieved, and the contracts offered have always been good value and provided me with a choice of handsets and options..... untill recently that is!

The reason i have now decided to leave O2 is because they are basically giving me no choice.

The contracts are no longer competative and the choice of handsets is currently by far the worst on the market. If you dont want a iPhone there is very little to chose from, and what is on offer is outdated.

My last contract expired in May, i enquired about the iphone but for what i wanted it was to expensive and decided against taking the contract but was willing to wait for new options to arrive and switched to the £20 simplicity to fill the gap in contracts and see what O2 would have done once the second quater came to and end.

What they did was nothing! There are very few new desirable handsets and nothing has been offered to me by O2 (basically i think their is little interest in holding onto customers who dont want an iphone or something similar). So basically i have only one option left move to orange or vodaphone and actually get some choice.

Im pretty dissapointed i dont really want to leave O2 but there is nothing on offer i want and no sign of this changing. 4 months down the line and the choice of handsets still hasnt changed.

Is anyone else finding the same thing when it comes to remewing thier contract??

I was a little surprised that retentions could not discount the handset to keep my business. The guy I spoke to said he did not understand why that option was not available so it sounds like the staff are frustrated at not being able to go the extra mile to retain customers. I thought that was the whole point of the retentions department.

Perhaps I'll get the discount I want on the handset when I ask for my PAC but I suspect that they will just give me the PAC...

I hope they can hear the slamming doors as people leave O2. Customers who have been loyal to O2 for years deserve some loyalty back. I can't believe they are allowing people to leave without trying to retain them.

you think with the massive horde of new customers brought in by the iPhone that they are realy going to notice?

Well i tried using O2 again and today i cancelled my sim only contract.

Main reasons are all around data. Slow HSDPA speeds and that is if i find 3G to start with!.

Downloading a full track from Nokia Music Store took over a minute, compared to on my Vodafone SIM where it finished in about 20 seconds!.

I like how they allow video calling out of your minutes but 3G is so hard to keep a good 3G signal to be able to actually call. On the bus to work today my phone kept swapping between 2G and 3G for the whole 30 minute trip which ust shows in my area the signal is really bad.

Will be staying on Vodafone with my sim only deal waiting for some of their new phones. All O2 seem to want to push now is the iPhone and even then they are out of stock most of the time. Even 202 when you call and choose the option to talk about your number the automated message talks about the #### iPhone.

:mansurprised:

Yes I have been with the company now for longer than most of their staff, over ten years in fact. first they took away my roll over where I kept my paid for messages and text that i didn't use and rolled them over for three months, then it would begin again.
Then they took away my o800 numbers so that meant I could not call the doctors for free even.
then to finally top it all off they closed down imode so now I dont even have that.
What a poor show all round i say.
As a business person myself I find that customers rarely complain to the company, that i will be doing and they usually vote with their feet. so the comapany still fails to keep the long serving customers beacuse they just leave.
I have paid them approx £30 a month for ten years that is £3600 that is a lot of money for them to say goodbye to lets hope they come up with a good rescue plan to keep me.
As not only do I complain politely, I also praise well too!!!!!!!!
Hang in there fellow user as I have not left them YET.

I said I would come back and let you know of my experience with Vodafone.
I ordered my new handset, HTC Touch Pro 2 from mobilephones direct, they sell all the carriers products, including o2.

I had a choice of Tmobile or Vodaphone with the handset I wanted, it turned up the next morning, my number was ported the following day with no problems.

So far I am very happy. I am even considering moving my business contracts to Vodafone (currently with BT) and I now find out that Vodafone have a home broadband product too.

O2 you need to pull your socks up unless all you want left are iPhone customers, there is a lot of choice out there, having one exclusive phone doesnt strike me as a sound business plan.

The HTC handset is probably the best windows mobile handset I have ever used, the keyboard one of my main reasons for choosing this handset, is quite simply exceptional.

The screen is clear and responsive, and dont forget that with a bit of patience for every app the iPhone had windows mobile has a counter part or two, the difference is windows hasn't sorted out an "app store". However that is coming. Android of course has the same "app store" model.

The gap between the iPhone and other smart phone is not as large as you think, and certianly to my mind I have found a handset that in my opinion is superior, especially as a business soultion.

One thing I will mention it takes a while to get through to Vodafone customer services but then I was used to that with Orange.

In short everything I wanted from a phone and a carrier vodaphone provided.

Food for thought perhaps O2?

I am due for an upgrade next month, I do hope that o2 can offer me something more than they can currently.

I have an N96 - this was an N95-8GB but managed to get the N96 through a freind & sold the N95-8GB.

I like the N96, although the bluetooth is a bit flakey & keeps losing connection with my PC with PC suite.

I wouldn't mind the N97, but with the N97 mini release date next month and also the N900 I would be looking at either of these phones.

I don't particularly want the N86 o2 are currently doing as this apart from the camera being at 8mp isn't really much of a change, it is still operating on S60V3FP2 which to be honest, I am getting tired with now.

The N97 offering s60v5 would be more of a move along with the touch screen and qwerty keyboard, something a little different and in the mini version would be great slight_smile

I have been an O2 customer for 6 years now and would like to continue to stay with them, however unless they step up their game and get some more nokia smart phones - other than marketing that bloomin Iphone, I may well be asking for my PAC code when the time comes.

I hope they get the N97 mini, as most of the firmware issues should be addressed in the upcoming v2.0 release.

Off to Orange as soon as they start selling 3GS. O2 lost me as soon as they screwed up the 3GS upgrade path having already screwed up the 3G upgrade, remember those text messages all us early adopters got? Mmm.

Anyways Orange seem to be able to offer better 3G coverage and will no doubt come out fighting on price, I see a mass exodus of O2 iPhone users to Orange. Apple customers need a network that understands our needs grin

I agree with you, the 3g network from both Vodafone and Orange certainly local to me, do outdo what o2 has to offer.

I actually obtained an n97 off ebay last night so will probably just go down the sim only route.

I worked it out, £35x18month £630.
vs
Me buying N97 (unwanted upgrade) = £286
Rental of sim only@£15 a month x 18 = £270

Add onto that the sale of my N96 if I get £160/£180 for it, it'll work out at about £220-£240 saving and I'm not tied in for a contract.

Plus I can wait to see if there are any other handsets on offer soon out there, I quite like the N900 atm, see how I get on with the N97 though, firmware 2.0 out next month.
