Clutching at straws here....you don't have any electrical equipment at all that could be interfering with the signal? Is this just at home or is it happening elsewhere? Do you know anyone else on O2 having problems? It definitely points to a network issue with both yours and your wife's phone having the same issues.

I think you should both report the problem independently to customer service as they may not be aware that there is a network problem.

Those settings are for MMS. Tap on the O2 Mobile Web APN and try changing the settings to these and reboot the phone after changing them: (password = password)

I've just checked my Nexus 4 and I have the same settings that you posted first, so I think there's either an unknown network issue or the phone has a fault.

Faulty or dirty sim card?

Easy enough to get another from an O2 shop or from O2 here tomorrow.

Please let us know if it solves the issue.
