O2 quote 72 hours max to unlock your phone.
First requested unlock from O2 on the 3rd Dec, O2 failed to get it unlock by the 6 Dec.
7 Dec had to request it again, 10 Dec Still not unlocked.
Whatever you do, request it unlocked well before you ever need it!!
O2 are effectively holding me to ransom, illegally. I should be free to have my phone unlocked within a reasonable time frame. Now i have a non working phone, thanks to me assuming they actually meant 72 hours max
Its now been 7 days so far.
BEWARE.

update.
The replacement phone arrived at 4pm today, and yes it is a 32gb, thanks o2 for the upgrade.
The downside is the guy at O2 got it wrong and the new phone cant be unlocked yet, as i dont have a working O2 sim!
So another day goes by..
O2 should now be sending me a PAYG sim so the phone can be unlocked.

Heres a facinating thing...
The replacement phone i received is locked to O2, and thats confirmed by Three and the new sim, and O2.
BUT, when i setup the phone with the O2 sim in, and then swap the sim while the phone is still on, im able to use the Three sim for calls and texts. Worked fine all last night.
If i reboot the phone it says "sorry sim not allowed" ie phone is locked. So booted with O2 sim and swapped the sim again, and again it works.
Anyway today, it definately wont work, very strange how a 'locked phone' actually accepted and worked with a different carrier.
So now still waiting for the PAYG sim to officially unlock the phone.

BTW O2 shops will give you a PAYG sim , BUT they also say you have to put £10 credit on it
