can anyone help me track an o2 mobile number to see whether it still exists to a customer or if the line has been disconnected. When i call the number, i receive this message, "The person you are phoning can't take your call, we will send them your number by text to let them know you've rung, thank you." This message has been coming on immediately without the phone ringing. Does anyone else in london have this message on their phone? what does it mean? does it mean that the customer is out of location or have their phone shut off? please, if an o2 representative can contact me, i can give you the cell number and maybe you can let me know if this mobile number belongs to someone or not. thank you.

O2 will not give out this information, as you've been advised the person has been sent a text and if they want to talk to you they will respond.
Under the Data Protection laws you are not entitled to have any information about someone else's telephone number.

Is it possible to call O2 and ask if this number has been disconnected without them saying to me that i've overstepped privacy rules? I just need to know if the cellular number is "shut off" or "disconnected". I do not need further information. Or do you know of an O2 representative online or on this forum that could help me find out whether this phone number is disconnected or just shut off? Please, this is an urgent matter and ur quick reply would be greatly appreciated.

And this information you have given me is certain? If the number does not belong to anyone anymore, how is that breaching someone's privacy? if the number is disconnected, then no one's privacy is being breached..am i correct?

Furthermore, with regards to this particular o2 number. What if there is a scenario which I wanted to join the O2 mobile plan and purchase a phone with a contract and ask if this particular number is available for me to have as my own number, wouldn't O2 find out for me if this number belongs to someone before they could allow me to have it?

The fact of the amount of posts you have made about this makes this dodgy even if I was not the customer adviser getting a call from you.
Why should you be given any information about another o2 customer, if you have legal authority to access it it would need to be done in writing. A phone live or dead is information about that person, you may have known them at one time but that does not mean you have any right to now. And it certainly does not mean they still want to be known by you. You have rung the number and if it is live they may have got a prompt about it. That is as far as you can go unless you can get the police or courts to act on your behalf.
O2 can not help.

Well lets see how the moderation is going now, I am afraid I am now flagging this post, first time for the month and will send Zoe a copy. This multi posting of things o2 can not do is not helping anyone. It is like customers just asking for a manager thinking they will get a different answer if they ask someone else. Why the 4-6 posts.

Its funny to me how a topic gets OFF topic in these forums and how people take things personally by adding personal remarks rather than assistance or some kind of substantial resolution to the issue. In any case, I thank you for your comments, however inappropriate they may seem.
