Its unlikely there is anyone here who could help you. You can try O2 but I believe only the police can get the number.
The general advice is not to answer these calls, they will soon get fed up.
If the calls continue then still don't answer but contact O2 and ask for the Nuisance Calls Bureau.
If the calls are threatening, then contact the police with FULL details. If they are especially threatening, the police will locate the caller and warn them.

Thanks, prking.
No the calls are not threatening at all, no one has ever spoken on the phone, the person stays silent no matter what I say.
It has been happening for about 6 months now, sometimes 3 times a day, other times it does not happen for a couple of week, it is very irregular. It's especially annoying since my parents always call me from an unknown number and I cannot reject the calls then.

Could it be a cold caller/automated call? How long do you stay on the phone when they call?
Only asking because a friend of mine had the same problem last year (on Orange)on both her mobile and home phone. It turned out to be Talktalk. They are terrible for cold calling.

This is called 'silent calls' and has been outlawed for landlines.
Basically it is an automated call centre, many, but not all are debt collection Agencies, banks, tele marketers etc.
The automated system dials hundreds of numbers a second, some random others targeted, and when you answer it will show on a notification board and if there is a free representative they will pick up, but mostly you never get anyone on.

I have the same problem with silent calls but my phone registers a number. Can this be stopped without me changing me number?

You would need to either contact the caller and ask them to stop, if they show their number it's usually a legitimate company.
Failing that contact the police and the O2 Nuisance Calls Bureau.
Bear in mind if it's company you have done business with, they may be entitled to call you, unless you ask them not to.
You can try entering the number here, but you will see a lot of uninformed comment:
