I want to start a new thread about this as it is being mentioned on another one (taking it off topic)
I know we have discussed and had an explanation about Deleting Posts...to some extent I can understand the reason why we can't do that...
However, editing posts is a very different ball game in my opinion.
I often notice spelling mistakes I have made (purely by trying to dash a response off quickly)...if I notice them immediately, I edit immediately and no problem...
However, if I see it hours later it galls me that the edit facility has timed out....
If I want to edit my own post I then have to seek help from a moderator. (at my age this feels like standing in front of the headmaster and saying 'Please Sir....apologies for my spelling mistake but I have forgotten my pen and can't change it')
Some of you may think ...why is she going on about this...its no biggie?
I disagree...its a real biggie to me. (Apologies.... this is just the way I am)
Also...we have seen a post today by an experienced member (I will spare his blushes) where autocorrect or predictive text put Rant when it should have said Really. That could have caused distress to the OP
All I am asking for... is a much longer period of time to edit our posts please?
Rant over

As I'm often on the move I would say a couple of hours is adequate to correct some auto correct or mistyped errors.

30 minutes is fine by me.
As already mentioned by MI5, if you take your time and ensure that the information provided is correct at time of posting then editing shouldn't be needed. Spelling isn't a problem unless you've just posted to say that your spelling is impeccable
If you need to add something to a thread after the initial 30 minutes then just create a new post. I know the 30 minute deadline doesn't stop some users replying to themselves anyway so it shouldn't be a huge problem.

When I first posted this I did make the point it was personal to me....(though I do know of others that agree the timeout should be longer)
I am not decrepit by any means, but I do know that I type and browse the forum more slowly than many..
My request was NOT made to allow me more time to go back and add links (I can rarely find those links)
It certainly wasn't because I wanted to be first past the post either.....
With due respect to those that simply think 'having spellcheck on' will cure my problem...I know how to spell but sometimes I hit the wrong key.... Spellcheck does not correct poor grammar or sentences which are laid out incorrectly....
I also think 30 minute timeout is far too short for SOME of us...hopefully the forum is aimed to cater to/for different folk of different ages and technical capabilities?
EDIT: 99% of the time I access the forum from my laptop. I struggle to do anything via my S3...

Someone mentioned to me that spellcheck being set by default may help some of us concerned about spelling
I am not sure if Lithium would allow that facility?

They have it set on the Virgin Media forums which are also on Lithium

Of course spell checkers still allow their or there instead of they're and "should of" instead of "should have " or even "should've"' amongst others.
