Discussions about O2 and age verification

Just received a text from TPTB saying I need to confirm I'm over 18 to view adult material. Until then, it'll remain blocked on my phone. I don't have a credit card so I'll need to do this in store. Just wondering, I have no particular desire to view pornographic material or register to flirt websites on my phone but if I don't have this ban lifted, will it affect my general day-to-day browsing in any way? Otherwise, I won't bother.
Secondly, when did this come about? Never needed to confirm my age in the past. And why couldn't they have sorted this in store when I bought the phone?

At 1.30 pm today I accessed, as I have for the past 18 months, a European News site on my iphone. At 4.30 I was unable to do so. As with all of you the message I received I immediately took to be a scam. Will someone tell me why an adult, who has had an o2 contract for 10 at least years, has their privacy invaded to protect other peoples children. Every time my contract is renewed I prove my age with valid ID. If parents are so irresponsible to allow their children adult phones with internet access without setting controls, then why should it be the responsibility of the rest of the population to police them. I have just given my credit card details on the phone to goodness knows who. I could not even do this securely in my 02 account the links do not work. Maybe o2 can stop encouraging the 'I want one' generation (or is the market too lucrative)and look after it's existing customers.

3 times in 12 months I had this Bargo nonsense and 3 times I have ben told that my file info has been corrected and I won't be bothered again... and yes I have a contract, pay by DD from my personal bank account and have gone through the credit card fiasco. Of course if you read the small print, they will take money off your card to prove it works and pay it back.... BUT ONLY THE ONCE. After that, if you keep using your credit card to verify then you are really paying a fee to be able to access sites with adult content.

Try adding a comma and thinking of US as us.
"Nice of you that you hope for us, your customers, ..."etc

Well this has cropped up again. I can access sickipedia - a joke website via mobile browsing but not via the iPhone app. The app is restricted on wifi but I can browse #### on wifi but not on 3G. The online age verification thing on the O2 website doesn't work - too many access attempts. One attempt must be too many.
Although I understand why the age verification is being brought in I cannot understand why O2 cannot interrogate its own database. If an over 18 has got a mobile for an under 18 then that is their problem. If an under 18 wants to access #### material then they will. They will download it to their PC and transfer it to their mobile. A bit of an inconvenience but nice #### are always worth some inconvenience.
O2 need to sort this out before they start haemorraging customers. I pay £80 a month for mobile, broadband and landline calls. I would be more than happy to take my business elsewhere if O2 don't want my money
