Hi I have recently applied for a mortage and i am absolutely flabbergasted they have told me there is a default on my account from 02, back in 2010, i have been an 02 customer for many years and i have never missed a payment I need to get this default removed so that I dont lose my house as my mortgage will fall through.

Can anyone tell me what i have to do to get this removed asap?

Speak to O2 Customer Services to have them investigate http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

Here is the complaint link http://www.o2.co.uk/how-to-complain/complain

Contact Experian to look at your credit file.

We had a similar thread to this a few weeks ago although in that case the OP did have a very small debt outstanding (less than £10) which she advised she was not aware of. It was paid immediately but o2 works not budge.

I would recommend you contact o2 and ask them for exact details, then request a copy of your credit report which costs just £2 so you can see everything that is on there (good or bad).

Once you have the full detail you can then decide how best to action it. I would be very surprised if a mortgage was turned down as a result of a single default or late payment.

This has encouraged me today to check out my own credit rating. It is easy to do and took me less than 10 minutes online. YOUR FIRST MONTH IS FREE AND YOU CAN CANCEL AS SOON AS YOU HAVE DOWNLOADED YOUR REPORT. (Or you have 30 days to do so after which you are charged £14.99 per month).

1. If you are a Quidco member go to their website, login and search for Experian.

2. Use the link inside Quidco to access Experian.

2A. If you are not a member of Quidco go to https://www.creditexpert.co.uk

3. Click on SIGN UP TODAY. Follow the on screen instructions. You will need to put payment details in but your first month is free if you haven't had a report before.

4. Once you have completed sign in you can access your report there and then and go through it in as much or as little detail as you wish.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE CHARGED YOU MUST CANCEL DURING THE FIRST 30 DAYS BY CALLING CREDIT EXPERT (part of Experian) by telephone. I am not aware you can cancel online as they will want to try to pursuade you to keep it.

(P.s. Sorry to highlight in capitals, I am not shouting at anyone, just trying to make it clear so you are not charged).

Good thing to know Nick. It will certainly help people who want to know why a credit application has been refused..

Or even those who just want to know what their credit score is.

A friend of mine checked her rating last year just out of interest and was horrified to see there were errors.

Someone completely unknown to her was shown on her file and apparently had been using her address to purchase goods and not pay for them

Fortunately she was able to prove her case and her credit rating was amended

Hi @Cleoriff

A great reason to check your credit file, especially as this way you can do so for free or as a Quidco member you can also earn £5 cashback currently.

Given the tightening of the lending rules over the last few years I would recommend everyone check their file every so often.
