Carphonewarehouse Insurance scam

Hello all. I thought id better warn you of this one so you dont end up being duped by these ####! I took out a 2 year contract with CPW on O2. I was contacted 2 days later on my home phone by a company called E BELL UK LTD.They claimed they were a part of Geek squad (CPW insurance company) and offered me insurance for my phone for 18 months, with the option of upgrading my phone after 18 months for 2 instalments of £52.50. The guy on the phone a Mr Mike Davies knew what phone i had, how long my contract was for,how much it cost,part of my card number and my home phone number and address! It seemed very genuine so i gratefully accepted the offer and told him i would pay the full amount now on a different card (credit card). He then passed me on to a manager who then confirmed everything i had been through.
30 days later (sunday)and i drop my phone down the bog so out comes my policy documents and i was covered for water damage but the company was closed on sundays so i googled the name E BELL UK LTD and found a post that mentioned them in a insurance scam here on O2 forums. I phoned carphonewarehouse and O2 and neither had heard of this company! Monday comes and i phone E BELL and ask them some questions like why were they unheard of and how did they get my details and I WANT MY MONEY BACK. The guy on the phone lost it and said how dare i say his company was fake blah blah. I said refund me and he said it would be back in my account in 5 working days.
5 days later not in my account so i ring the prick again and he says they had trouble refunding on my card so he would send a cheque out, and he did, and it is post stamped from wales yet the company is in Doncaster! I will attempt cashin the cheque and have informed trading standards,my credit card company and have made a complaint to CPW due to this company getting hold of all my details i will keep you all posted on this matter. ####

Where are they getting people's data from?

They do not they ring at random from recently issued numbr blocks.

I.E. they buy a phone and ring numbers either side discussed in the long thread in the iphone forum

I did get my money back from them, they sent a cheque and it cleared!

I think you mean "libellous", but I do agree with your point.

Every time this happens many people come to the wrong conclusion and companies like yours and all the other phone companies, seem to make good targets for the uninformed.

Unfortunately when something like the recent case of information being sold illegally occurs, it casts doubts into peoples minds.

You are always free to flag any posts you deem to be libellous, and if the moderators agree they will be removed.

I think you are making the mistake of confusing what is written here with what you might see in a newspaper, but due to the casual and conversational nature of what appears here, it is unlikely that it can be controlled.

Good grief - is a latte really that expensive, I visited one of these places sometime ago, the coffee was served in a paper cup - never again!

i recently took out insurance with these in november i have not recieved any conformation and they rang on withheld number they said they had got my details from 02 and i made my first payment but now it looks unlikely i will be hearing from them again does anyone know a contact number or address so i can report please.

So you have made a payment to a firm you don't know and can't contact.

I should have a word with your credit card company to stop any further payments being taken.

I would agree with perksie on this and maybe have a word with your bank to see if they have the details where the payment has gone.
