British Forces Post Office Address

Why doesn't your credit refferal recognise BFPO adresses? I am unable to get an O2 monthly contract even though I am in full well paid employment, am a UK property owner, a UK citizen, British Army Officer and have had a UK bank account for 30 years.
I have tried writing to your credit service as recommended by staff at my local O2 branch but have not had a reply nor indeed even an acknowledgement of receipt.

I don't know the technical reason for it but I'd guess as it's not a standard UK address O2 can't credit check it. Do you have this issue with other companies or just O2?

No other issues: managed to get a BT phone line in to my new UK address, gas and electric direct debits set up, registered for council tax, electoral register entry but still cant get a cheap contract to use on my own i-phone.
I'm more interested in O2 replying so I can sort this otherwise I go to a diffferent supplier. A certain irony that others can offer me a contract and brand new phone almost immediately but I want to keep my No and use O2 to O2 benefits.
Thanks for the reply.

I kind of know the answer to this: because BFPO is a postal box service which is then forwarded onto the serviceman in whatever location, the system doesn't accept postal boxes as an officially assigned address. The lines prior to the BFPO number are not registered as UK addresses so there is no way to determine if it is a valid one. Its more of a traditional postal service i.e. its the same rate to send abroad to BFPO as in the UK. Its just that the BFPO address was never meant to be used as a reference point for the ubiquitous credit checking service!
You might find that other networks would also reject a BFPO number on a contract credit check as no doubt the development teams didn't forsee the need.
Best thing you can do, is register it at your UK house which avoids all the hassle. As all the billing is done online, you'll still get notifications via an email address of your choosing. Only thing you need to watch for is if you have an upgrade phone sent to the registered address, you need have someone trustworthy to pick it up.

Thanks- tried all that and am in a UK address with several utilities set up no issue. The issue appears to be my absence serving my country abroad.
In a certain irony I am doing a university course with overseas students who are getting contracts on the strength of an overseas passport and a student visa. They all intend to keep the phone after the year and breach the contract.
Not much of an O2 forum if they don't reply.
Exasperated!!

You haven't said what the exact problem is?
Are you applying with the BFPO as your current permanent address? Or are you using the BFPO as a previous address (as part of your address history)?
How you sort it out, depends on what exactly has happened.

(How did the students get contracts? We normally get them on here complaining they can't get contracts!)

Incidentally, its an O2 Customer Forum for us customers to discuss things. There are some occasional posts from O2 (you'll see their user name).

I simply want a monthly contract or a reply from O2 the Credit Agency explainng why I cant get or a contract or how I overcome the issue. I am now resident in the UK (my home country) and have no issues with any other utility companies.
Time to change to another company I think.
