BT Cellnet- IMSI Failed

Anonymous
Not applicable
My parents brought a BT Cellnet phone and recently,I have taken the decision to rejuvenated it for my own, personal use.
The battery was dead on it, so I brought a new one. Worked fine.
Once it was on, I took out the BT Cellnet pay and go sim card and put in a more recent 02 pay and gosim, which made the screen say:
loading
and then,
IMSI Failed
I put back in the BT Cellnet sim and it said the same thing.
can you help at all? eddie

Which phone is it? Early cellnet handsets won't work with a modern SIM as they are electrically different.

Its difficult because this handset straddles the changeover period. (from about 1999)
That means there are two possibilities, either the handset isn't compatible with a modern SIM or the SIM cards you used were disconnected from the network.

(its also possible the handset is faulty)

Sorry I can't give a definite answer.

You can't use these handsets on the o2 network anymore. Several years ago the Savvy along with several others that were by that time very out of date were disabled from accessing the network (something to do with a move on in technology). I believe at the time anyone still using one was offered a discount off a new pay and go phone.
