Funnily enough I had read the same earlier, I'll attempt to find link but it was along the lines of "device doesn't need to be unlocked for transactions under £30"

BTW I did not think it was correct

@viridis might be better to use a link that isn't behind a paywall 🙂

I'll try and find a link, but most news articles today have the same script so if it is an error they've all copied and pasted it in.

Extract from the Guardian

To pay for goods costing less than £30 using Android Pay, the smartphone simply needs to be awake and tapped on to the contactless reader. For payments more than £30, the user needs to authenticate the payment by unlocking their smartphone with either a pin, unlock pattern or fingerprint.

I'm unable to read the article @viridis, but I'm fairly certain it's incorrect. I know that with my contactless debit card, I can't make a single purchase over £30. I would think that it's the same for Android Pay, as all it's doing is using the card, but not transmitting the actual card details.

@PhoneChanger I couldn't say for sure, but I don't think the Guardian has got it right either. Best to contact Google support to be sure.

Well i'm sure it won't be long before someone tries it out and updates the thread. I'll try and use it some point over the next few days

Well the Google support page says the phone needs to be unlocked, so that's what I'm going by. I'm not really certain why this is an issue, as I don't know anyone who keeps their phone awake all the time.

Unfortunately, I've just discovered that I can't use the app here. My new Chinese phone isn't included in Google's Supported Devices list yet. I've been in contact with Google support and have sent a bug report, so maybe they'll include it soon.
