A month ago I got a text from O2 telling me that 4G was coming. A few days later, there it was.
It is a better 4G signal than I used to get GSM. Marvellous
Thanks.
The university students have now arrived back so let's hope that extra capacity has been built in, so that reception doesn't die off when they're all using it.

I was at Gatwick a couple of weeks ago and there was no 4G there. The coverage map says there should be, but even that map states that it does not reach the long stay car parks and that 4G is very patchy in the area of the airport. Inside the North Terminal it was 3G only and I never connected to 4G whilst I was there.

Does anyone know how or where I can find out future coverage plans? I've been with O2 since Cellnet days and yet, for the first time, I'm thinking of changing provider! O2 use Vodaphone network too we are told, but Voda, EE and 3 all have 4G coverage in Consett area - why not O2. I know we have a lot of hills here - but Consett is on top of one! Most of the locallity is voice and texts only, but I can be patient if the situation will be changing, but how can I find out?

Thanks for the answer - even if it's not what I wanted to hear I appreciate it.

I'd been asking about rubbish coverage in Durham for years. (Mind you, O2 was the ONLY one to have any coverage at home.) We live on top of a hill and if I lived a hundred yards nearer the mast, I'd have been just over the brow and would have had a good 3G signal. Now they've managed to get 4G here from the same mast.
We got a hint about a 4G trial about 6 months ago, but nothing concrete, then out of the blue a text saying it was on its way.

Plans are known to a select few. I could tell you but then I would have to kill you

The only warning you might get that 4g is coming is by entering your postcode in the status pages. Sometimes it may say that 4g work is being done on your local mast, but it's no guarantee.....
As we have found...Living with such high expectations 2 weeks ago....and then nothing...
