Help please!

I'm a 'pay monthly' Iphone user and have just been whacked by what seem to me exhorbitant charges for 2 x 118500 calls. Made them both on 27th Feb immediately after each other. First lasted just over 2min and second lasted just over 1min. Obviously not 'inclusive' calls but £5.85 and £3 respectively is a complete rip-off as far as I am concerned. I thought the standard cost of one of these calls was about 50p (as long as you didnt let the 118500 team connect you). 

Anybody else got stung this way and what response from our friends at O2 did you get if/when you queried the costs?

O2 publishes call charge prices on the website, and also over the phone.  If you don't check the price and just call them, that is just a silly thing to do.  Also if calling one of these numbers, make sure that they don't place your call through, as you're still connected at the 118 rate.


Pablo out of interest from your experience do you get a lot of customers using these numbers?

Yep. Just got a £20 fee from 02 for one call to 118500 that lasted just over 4 mins. I thought it was a big bt charge so contacted them and yes, they charge a lot but £2.36 left me with £8 unexplained. After talking to O2 they explained that their flat rate to 02 is £5 per min, no exceptions! This is absolutely disgusting, especially considering directory enquiries used to be a free service. Will probably leave 02 after this.

Calls to O2 directory enquiries cost £1 for the first minute then charged to the second, calls to other 118 services are as listed here:

O2 won't subsidise 118 calls to another network.

Feel free to leave but all mobile networks charge extortionate rates for dir enq calls & connections.
No one needs call them these days - just Google for the number for free slight_smile

Sadly unable to just google a number as i have an old style mobile not connected to Internet and was in the middle of a field urgently needing an RSPCA number. Just because everyone charges this much doesn't make it right surely? Still stamping my cross little feet!

If you had used the O2 Directory service instead of the BT one, the charge would have been £4 and not £20.

 

These numbers and their high costs are not new and they've been around for many years now.

 

Your phone will have a phone book or contacts list where the cheapest one, O2 can be entered.

I've just done the same thing, I was with orange and 118500 was cheap as chips, just have a bill with 4x1.24min calls which cost between £4.33 each and £5.85. 118000 and 118500 both without being connected. Joke!

some times the data coverage is too slow and you just need a number, a mistakle I won't make again.

Hello marhar545 and welcome to the Community.

O2 are currently upgrading their data networks and are obliged to have 98% of the population on 2g 3g and 4g by 2017. So hopefully things will improve for you.

Sadly since 192 ended and competition (which was intended to reduce costs) was brought in, charges have gone through the roof. All networks charge a fortune including (to a lesser extent) land line providers.
