Can anybody help? I have the new ultra two and a series 10 Apple Watch purchased from O2. I purchased the data plan for the watches, but I just cannot text once I’m away from the phone. It will not work. After contacting O2 multiple times so many people are saying no you can’t text at all because the data plan doesn’t do it and the other half says yes you can so I’m stuck because a lot of the misleading information does anybody have an ultra 2 to or a series 10 on an O2 data plan that they can send text when they’re not with their phone

@Enlli wrote:@Kev975 Yes, a sorry state of affairs and it may be good to explain things to get your thoughts in order, however there are just a handful of regular posters on here and we have exhausted our limited knowledge base.
Sorry, but your options as I see it would be to go through the official complaints procedure (takes around eight week) after which the Commentators Ombudsman can become involved. Or you can seek legal advice. (Maybe both)
As a follow-up to that @Kev975, you will find lots of information here :-
https://www.o2.co.uk/how-to-complain
Meanwhile, the escalation process is described here :-

However, I would suggest that you regard that path as a very last resort, as the saga could easily still be rumbling along at Easter. 👍

Hi thanks very much for that but I’ve already contacted them months ago. This has been going on since August. I’ve used all four emails for O2. I’ve sent 23 emails in Total by tracker so I can tell what time is opened and where it was opened. I’ve sent a recorded delivery letter to Head Office and 45 phone calls all recorded but you get a different person every time plus I have been to 4 different 02 shops. I cannot see any other way. I just want the £6000 back for the watches. Or they fix the text problem and I’m just getting nowhere. You mentioned The legal route that is just absolutely thousands of pounds not hundreds I don’t have money like that so unfortunately I won’t be able to do that but thanks for your advice but as I said I’ve done everything that I can possibly I think of. Hence why I came on here to ask if people have an-ultra 2 or series 10 and if they can text without their phones being with them on the O2 data plan thanks again.

I just wanted to update you as you were so helpful so after I have called and emailed 55 phone calls and 27 emails going over a five month period and complaint to 02 I got a deadlock letter from 02 saying nothing they could or would do. it went ombudsman and O2 have now put in writing. “It is impossible for you to text on an Apple Watch with the O2 data plan unless your phone is with you everywhere you go” Which makes no sense it doesn’t say on the website that it doesn’t say that in the shops and I’ve got friends who can text on their watch but I just want to update you because as you mentioned the ombudsman etc before.

Seems o2 are sticking to there guns and talking absolute cods wallop...
Unless something has changed yet again with o2 you can as I said at the beginning of this thread (if others would have read the whole thread), it is possible and I have used it myself..
Good Luck, think you are going to need it..

It wasn't aimed at you
I have just spoken to someone in o2 tech as I have a weird issue on mine at the moment, and he has confirmed that you should be able to use all the functionality of the Apple Watch sans mobile phone..
I wish I understood what is going on with o2, as lots of mis information within Customer Service at the moment, and wonder if this is some of the ex Virgin Mobile staff not having a Scooby..

Key word is data: "It is impossible to text on a Apple Watch with the O2 data plan" - bear in mind O2 provide data only, for cellular routers etc, plans (no voice, and very limited SMS functionality) as well as regular watch plans that have voice, SMS and data.
Could this be the cause of the confusion, @Kev975?
If so, then O2 are correct - you need a Smartwatch SIM, not a Data (Mobile Broadband and, usually, Tablet) SIM.
It's all in the wording ...

This is how o2 describe the plan for an Apple Watch, as it provides unlimited data but it can send and receive text messages as its all linked through the Apple Watch App and via the EID etc... So the Apple Watch can make calls and receive SMS even when away from the phone...
And this is from the o2 Apple Watch FAQ's
