Once they have your number you're pretty much stuffed.
You can register for the TPS which may stop some calls
http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html and apps like Truecaller can be set to reject any unknown numbers, but be aware some legitimate services like doctors, hospitals and even some private numbers may not transmit a caller id so you risk blocking some you don't want to block.
