So my keys got loose in my purse and scratched up my iPhone 7 screen. I am bummed. I looked online and tried taking toothpaste to smooth it out. Maybe it worked, or maybe I am crazy. Does anyone else have another DIY trick without me having to replace the screen/put out more money than this prized phone already costs?
Thanks,
Ela

Light scratches can be removed by using a glass polishing kit (look on ebay, amazon etc) but for deep scratches you have no choice but to replace the screen.
Whilst you are looking on ebay or amazon, buy a screen protector to save this issue from happening again.

Here's how this remedy works:
Mix two parts baking soda and one part water in a bowl.
Stir until it forms a thick paste.
Apply the paste to a clean, soft cloth and gently rub in a circular motion on the phone's scratches.
After this, wipe your screen with a fresh, slightly dampened cloth to remove any excess.

NEVER use toothpaste on a display, only on camera lens scratches at most.
The OP has probably sent her oleophobic coating to the place in the sky after doing this and the display will never shine nicely again. Possibly really patchy too.
To repair the patching if it happens, you're gonna need to remove the entire oleophobic layer by means of glass polishing kit or brass and a microfiber cloth.
You'll need to Polish the display all over in circular motion for 30 minutes, reapplying the Polish as needed.

I'm just amazed that a brand new phone like this didn't have a screen protector on...
