iPhone 5 v 5S signal strength disparity

There are numerous times when my wifesi Phone 5 and myiPhone 4S and since I have upgraded to a 5S, are having differing signal strength indications whilst in the house.  My wifes phone will often indicate 2/3 bars and mine will have "no network found" (even when side by side). It never seems to be the other way around.  When I get 2/3 bars she has the same.  This happened with my 4S and I thought maybe when I upgraded the problem would disappear.  Wrong.  I am getting the same problem.  That is not to say I don't get any signal.  I do get a signal but it has never been stronger than 3 bars as we are some distance from the mast.  However that is sufficient for most things especially with a strong WiFi signal. The problem seems to be with txt messages and I often get the "failed to send" notification.  My thoughts are that some app or something else on my phone is causing this.  When I upgraded I just "restored from back up" when I set up the 5S.

Anyone any ideas at all - or is this just an enigma!?

A good process of elimination.

Looking forward to a positive update.

Went on the chat line today.   I was told to switch 4G off and reboot the phone as I was not in a 4G area and the phone was constantly looking for 4G.  I did that and now have a fairly constant 2/3 bars which is much better.  However, my wifes phone still has 4G swtiched on and does not really have this problem.  Also I will not now know if I am in a 4G area.  I have been told that if my signal strength increases to 4/5 bars then I can switch on 4G and restart the phone - what is the point of that when it should really be seemless!  But for now I suppose I am getting text messages on time and not having to go into Airplane mode and out again all the time.  Still some unanswered questions though:

I have a 4G phone and cannot use it.

Why does my wifes phone perform better?

Why do I have to switch 4G off (technical answer)? Any answer to this question will obviously lead back to the previous one!!

Did you consider having the iPhone looked over at a Genius Bar in an Apple Store if you have one local.

No not really as the nearest one is about 40 miles away.  Its a good idea though and I will get onto the Apple forum as well as other forum I use for Mac issues (mac4mac).  Thanks for your help.

Regards
