Hi there
This is probably a really basic question but it has me stumped...! I have my hotmail account set up on my new iPhone 5 - I want to be able to delete emails from my iPhone but for that NOT to then automatically delete the email from my actual hotmail inbox. I had this all sorted on my last iPhone (4) but the settings didn't transfer over when I upgraded and by deleting things from my iPhone, I've deleted everything from my hotmail inbox. The Mail option under Settings doesn't seem to cover this option? What am I missing?
Thank you!

are they set up as imap accounts ? or pop3 accounts?
but i see in pop3 the option to keep on server in advanced but no option in imap advanced (as that is the way imap works)
So in pop 3
Settings> Mail contacts calandar> select account> if pop3 scroll down to advanved above delete account> incomming settings >delete from server> select never
imap no option but there is an advanced tab.
only in exchange type accounts is there no advanced tab.

You need to go into the Advanced settings on the iphone and make sure that the option to delete from server is off.

Thanks Jonsie - daftquestion but where are the advanced settings? I can't see a heading labelled that?

Neither of my accounts (iCloud & hotmail) have an advanced heading under them - just on/off buttons for Mail, Contacts, Calendars & Reminders. Plus a 'mail days to sync' and a 'mail folders to push' options.
Under the main heading of Mail, Contacts etc, there is a heading called 'fetch new data' which I've found an advanced heading under but this is just to select options of push, fetch or manual.
Am I best to delete the account (s?) and start again? Seems odd that what I see is different to what I should see?

I would try deleting it and setting it up again, you should get all the options then.

Nope, it's not worked...! No change, same options, no advanced heading...

Genius! All sorted now - didn't realise you had to set it up at pop3 specifically so deleted the account I had and found an online tutorial to do the pop3 set up. Thanks both, hugely appreciated!
