it is on apples website and the eu regs state the retailer not the manufacturer. http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/
Apples 12 months is above the mininimum requirement as again the first 12 months is with the retailer.
Apple alows you to go direct to apple and in most warranty cases replace on the spot in store or via the advance replacement mail in service.
To get to the document you follow the apple support pages until you get here http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_Kingdom&product=iphone then open the drop down warranty and service pricing then can i extend service coverage etc. There it links ti the eu page above.
