Using 1GB data in A DAY!!

Anonymous
Not applicable

I used all of my data last month, and my next 1GB of data was put back again yesterday as I'd come to the restart date in the month. I reset the timers in my data usage settings yesterday evening so I could monitor it this month (I did go a bit mad last month, but it took three weeks for me to use it all).

So half way through today I got a message to say I had nearly used up all of my data! I thought this was an error and ignored it, as I hadn't used it much at all. So anyway, I've been home for the last 7 hours, and it's just messaged me again to say I've used up all of my data!? In a day!! WTF!? I've been home using wifi! I have seen threads saying that the new iphone 5 update 6 has caused data usage problems, but they seem to be from back in October, is this still an issue?! Surely not!! I think I downloaded it yesterday or the night before. My phone currently says I've sent 566MB already, but online here it says I've gone over the 1GB allowed. I realise it takes 12 hours to update, but there is NO WAY I have used all that data. I have been home most of today.

I have now downloaded data usage monitoring apps, but I'm really annoyed that I've got no data for a month now, and seemingly for no reason?! What is going on??

iCloud, only backs up, when on wifi. It won't automatically back up over the O2 3G connection. Although you can manually back up, by going to the iCloud settings. Unless I'm wrong?

Your quite correct.

I prefer to back-up both to iCloud and iTunes.

The update download for ios 6.1.3 were pretty small (about 40 mb on my iPod Touch).  And large updates can only be done via wi fi, not via 3G data.

Why on earth did the O2 employee think the download could have used the data?

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I was sent a text two weeks into the month informing me I'd used all of my allowance. Which doesn't seem impossible, unless you factor in the fact that I CAN'T FREAKING USE MY 3G. The O2 customer support is shocking. I sent off my phone last month to be fixed and received it back with the same exact problem. I've been told I can't have a new model and that it can only be repaired?! What is the point in sending it to be repaired if THEY DON'T EVEN REPAIR IT!!!! I am so angry at O2. There is no way in hell I'm renewing my contract with them and I'm going to warn everybody off of them like the plague that they are. Worst customer service I've ever dealt with.

I'm having the same problem on my iphone 4. I updated it to ios 6.1.3 on Tuesday night, and then on Friday I recevied a message to say I was at 80% of my data allowance, and that my allowance would reset on the 24th of next month. This would have meant that my data allowance had previously been reset 2 days before getting the message. I don't pay for my bill, by company does so I'm not sure 100% of the limit, but I have only ever received a warning to say I was close once, and that was when I was abroad. I use wifi at work and at home all day. Not only this, but since updating my phone my battery has been draining ridiculously quick, to the point where I've charged my phone overnight and it's died by lunchtime, and that's with me at work and not using it. I've turned 3g off, data roaming off, deleted loads of apps and it hasn't resloved the problem. My data eventually ran out on Sat. Any advice appreciated!

Try restoring the phone as that may help with the battery issue
