Luckily I bought my 5S from Carphone Warehouse with O2 as the provider, when I restored my 5S today it said congratulations my phone is unlocked! So I can use my 3G simcard in it with no worries, have you guys tried other provider cards in your phones?

My lovely finace bought me a new iphone 5s for xmas. I have been on a pay monthly contract withO2 for yonks so she bought it from the O2 shop in Guildford on a pay as you go basis.
She paid cash, lovely jubly....but no. She was not told the phone was locked and culd not be unlocked.
I only found this out last week when I decided O2's data costs were too high as I use my ipad a lot so I decided to change providers.
Big problem, even though the iphone 5 was bought outright, O2 still lock it and are refusing to unlock it.
Today O2 who were happy to supply me with a puck code switched me off, so I am now phoneless. I have a sim from my new provider but the phone wont recognise it......crazy situation eh. I own the phone but they wont unlock it.
I better talk to Anne on Watchdog, she can tell peeps not to buy one from a provider like O2 unless you are going to stay with them............me not happy.
If only she had gone to carphone warehouse!!!!

I suspect that Watchdog will know the rules here, you must buy "Sim Free" if you want an unlocked Pay as you Go phone.
Buying from a network will be cheaper as they will lock it for at least 12 months as they are entitled to do.
It's a shame that you found your way here to complain but not earlier to ask for advice before buying.
