Been looking on the internet on how to unlock the iPhone 5... Mostly curiosity.
And came across a few sites where they do a IMEI unlock.... I was wondering how they do it? Surely it must be illegal?
But to my main point (Last sentence), is this true?

Hopefully the demand starts to slack off shortly so we can get our unlocks!

Hmm... well I just tried tp get my iPhone 5 unlocked and it came back with this.....

Thank you for your iPhone unlatching request.
I'm sorry, we have not been able to unlatch your iPhone at this time.
The reason given is: The phone resgistered to the IMEI is not an iPhone.
Thank you,
O2 Customer Service

It is *#06# as they said to get the IMEI code and it was exactly how I put it in there - and I am looking at my iP5 right now with the same code. Have I done anything wrong to get that code?

Was that the imei for an IP5 cause I think it's just a generic template if the phone isn't an eligible iphone.

Well, yep it was for an iP5 and if that a generic template reply then they should actually make up a better one then saying that the IMEI that was supplied is not an iPhone when it is an iPhone.

That was not the reply I got earlier this week. I received:

Just a thought...
I had an "ordinary" phone on O2 for years, no probs. I got the iPhone5 from an O2 shop on PAYG thinking all would be well.
Now I find that the G3 cover down here is very poor and I can't use the smartphone functions. The shop did not tell me about the coverage.
This reminds me of the payment protection mis-selling situation by banks.
As I say, just a thought.
