Been looking on the internet on how to unlock the iPhone 5... Mostly curiosity.
And came across a few sites where they do a IMEI unlock.... I was wondering how they do it? Surely it must be illegal?
But to my main point (Last sentence), is this true?

If that went through which I doubt, it was a fluke as O2 have clearly said they won't:

They will announce it when unlocking is available.

No news as yet.
From the website:
* To make sure our iPhone 5 stock is reserved exclusively for genuine O2 customers during launch, we won't unlock the iPhone 5 at this time.

Spoke to O2 today. While ther are still not unlocking iPhone 5s, their CSR said that they expect unlocking to be authorised VERY SOON (based on the time frame they stuck to for 4S).
Bunged in a request anyway and got the following response.
"Thank you for your iPhone unlatching request.
I'm sorry, we have not been able to unlatch your iPhone at this time.
The reason given is: O2 are not currently unlatching the iPhone 5.
Thank you."

As of today apparently O2 are waiting for unlock codes from Apple for the 5. Strange because Vodafone and EE are already unlocking these, although it takes three weeks for Apple to send the code, which then has to be updated onto the phone via iTunes. I have asked to be sent an SMS when these codes are made available from Apple.
