Unlocking iPhone 5

Anonymous
Not applicable

Been looking on the internet on how to unlock the iPhone 5... Mostly curiosity.

And came across a few sites where they do a IMEI unlock.... I was wondering how they do it? Surely it must be illegal?

But to my main point (Last sentence), is this true?

To be fair, I don't actually hate O2. For eight years they provided me with a good service. I do find this situation very frustrating though, and think it must be illegal- whether that be a breach of EU directives or a breach of the Competition Act.

I agree with all the comments on here, I bought my iPhone 5 outright from CarPhone Warehouse not knowing that it would lock to the first SIM I inserted which happened to be O2.

O2 will now not unlock it and I am sure this is not lawful and against the Competition Ruling, I will have to take further legal advice to see if this is true.

I could understand it if I had bought a phone on Contract that had been subsidized, but that is not the case for me, I paid full price!

Come on O2!!

Where it might be annoying that O2 are still not unlatching the phones - it is not unlwaful. Do you think a company the size of O2 would slip up on something like that?

There's no law against it unfortunatly. Just be thankful you don't live in America then its unlawful to unlock them.
Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong. So Ive been told wink

It's not 02 that sim locked your iPhone.

CPW were a little more than shady {and that's best I can describe what they did as a business without being edited by a moderator}, charging the same handset price as Apple's factory unlocked version and added in their fine print that it locked to the first sim. The staff should have been instructed to point this important but of information out at the time of the sale. This has been discussed on here and other forums.

It shouldn't be long now before 02 start carrying out unlocking of the ip5.
