If your using iOS 7 ;

To disconnect findmyiphone you will need the original apple I.d and password it was activated with.

Go into settings. , privacy , location services , findmyiphone.

Toggle this off and you will need to key in the Apple ID password.

Without the password you cannot restore as this is an iOS 7 security protocol.

Activation Lock.

However try ;

Removing your sim and clean it.
Ensure the sim tray is clean.

Ring O2 in 202 contract or 4445 payg to ensure your account is ok.

Check your service status http://status.o2.co.uk

Try the sim in another phone.

To reset the phone ;
Hold the Top Button and Home Button until the Apple Logo appears, and then let go of both. Your iPhone will reset.

And or ;

Settings , General , Reset , Reset All Settings.

To reset and send off for repair Apple ask people to disable the Find My iPhone prior to returning it. I guess it is because Apple doesn't want people to know the exact location that that iPhone will be sent to.

Nice theory but I believe its because iOS 7 has an activation lock {which i mention in my post above} which needs to be disabled in order to restore the iPhone and possibly run diagnostics on it.

Band Of Brothers - I prefer the theory that Apple have a very high tech super secret lab that they want to keep hidden and that is why we have to turn Find My iPhone off lol
