Text message and iMessage problem with iphone 5

My iphone 5 will not recieve iMessages (and sometimes text messages) even though I have my phone set to recieve them, I do however receive them through my ipad. Is this a network problem or a phone problem?

Sounds like a phone problem if your iPad can get the iMessages.

Does the internet work on your phone through Safari? Do you get the iMessages through when you connect to a WiFi network?

Double check that you have the correct AppleID and password set in iMessage in settings.
