I've not personally tried this yet as continuity and handoff are not that much of a feature I'd use.

However I thought it was dependant on what age of device one is using. Some older macs won't support these new features.

Its working fine I even txt through my ipad 4 and it was to a android phone

Its defintely working for me.

I received a text from a friend who does not have an iPhone and I received the text and sent the text back to him from on my Mac (which has Yosemite installed).
