O2 does not unlock iPhone 5 even if it was not bought from O2!

I bought my iphone 5 from Carphone warehouse on it's release, it was supposed to be SIM FREE, little did I know it gets locked to the first SIM that is inserted in to the phone.

After my contract ran out with O2, now with the ability to shop around, O2 refuses to unlock my phone, while in the same time refuse to match any offers on other networks for contract renewal.

I think this anti compeitive, espically 6 months after it's release, with iPhone 5 in pentful supply. All other networks now freely allow their phone to be unlocked, with O2 refuses to do so, even though I did not buy my iPhone from them in the first place!

When I purchased mine from an Apple High-Street Store that was one of the questions I asked the genius before parting with £529.00 !.

I explained why I was asking and he looked gobsmacked !

I've said before that even tho Cpw had this in their small print the in store employees should have been advising every prospective buyer who were getting one.

No fortunately I've had no issues with my ip5.

I purchased mine from the apple store at full price which are the only true unlocked ones.

I mean him, I bought mine at full price too, but I got it on the launch date, and CPW was the only place with it available:

Have just been on the phone to Apple who are very understanding. They have said if I have an issue with my sim free phone they will exchange the phone, and have sent out a returns bag.
Why didn't I do this earlier?

Apple only do a like for like sim lock status replacement either in store or by post when apple issue a replacement whatever the apple system sees on the imei lock status is just carried over.

This is only the issue of CPW or other independants and you should be seeking advice from Trading standards about the issue regarding CPW sales tactics.

This is not an o2 issue but that of CPW.

I say again this issue is the making of CPW not O2 or apple.

Your contracts are with CPW not o2 as you bought them Sim free (but CPW hid the first sim lock in their small print).

If bought with an o2 contract then the issue would still be with cpw as the retailer/ reseller with there suplemental T&C (like having to take cpw insurance over o2's and any returns etc).

I hope o2 unlock soon but going around in circles on here is not helping anybody. (many threads on the issue)

I tried various CPW with no luck and I had picked up on the small print about the handset locking out to the 1st sim inserted, which made my mind up not to purchase one from them !

I challenged the CPW rep in store about that they were charging the same cost price to what Apple were for the full factory unlocked model, and he just shrugged his shoulders and said that's our t&c.

Their was a large amount of new threads popping up on various sites warning people of this !

My local and further a field 02 shops had them pavement a-frame stands saying "iphone 5 coming back into stock soon"  Smiley Embarassed

It eventually took me 14 reservation e mails on the Apple Uk site to get my hands on one.

Putting my e mail forward in the morning and then waiting until 9pm that night to see if I was successful was a nightmare.

People were making up various e mail addressees and sending in multiple requests !
