O2 does not unlock iPhone 5 even if it was not bought from O2!

I bought my iphone 5 from Carphone warehouse on it's release, it was supposed to be SIM FREE, little did I know it gets locked to the first SIM that is inserted in to the phone.

 

After my contract ran out with O2, now with the ability to shop around, O2 refuses to unlock my phone, while in the same time refuse to match any offers on other networks for contract renewal.

 

I think this anti compeitive, espically 6 months after it's release, with iPhone 5 in pentful supply. All other networks now freely allow their phone to be unlocked, with O2 refuses to do so, even though I did not buy my iPhone from them in the first place!

Cannot understand why some people on here will not have a bad word said against O2 (do you work for O2?).
O2 seem to love annoying their customers with silly little lock-ins. It's time for O2 to play fair with customers who innocently bought a phone sim free, only to be caught out by the small print. Possibly a case for mis-selling!

I do not work for 02 in any respect.

 

I have not said in any of my posts that I support what they {02}, are doing with the iphone 5 current lockout, but i understand why.

I buy Factory Unlocked from Apple so im not locked to any Network.

 

It was CPW who were not being plain about the lockout to the 1st sim inserted.

I suggest one takes a stroll down the technology magazine avenue because one would find many articles saying how iPhone 5 sales haven't been that great there.

Also, and mainly, when I ask O2, whether we're talking online operator, or actual people in stores, they don't tell me they don't unlock it because of high demands, they tell me that they can't unlock my phone because Apple doesn't allow them to.

To which, I only feel like replying "omg lolz BS". Because, why exactly would they be the only ones bullied by Apple ? 
In fact, Vodafone UK unlocks iPhone 5 just fine, so does 3, I checked in other countries too, same deal.

So why on earth, would Apple decide to pick on O2 and punish them like that ? I mean seriously, did O2 openly state that Microsoft is better than Apple, really what's the dark secret that they're not telling us ?

I am tired of hearing different explanations that sound all as contradictory as they are questionable. Not to mention that as a customer, I feel disrepected. Asking the carrier to unlock my phone is a right as I am paying for this phone and am contracted to.

Plus, as already mentioned previously, O2 has the sneaky, and again disrespectful manner to "omit" to tell you that their phones would be locked untill God knows when.
Because trust me, had I known that they were going to be blocked, O2 would have not been a considerated choice.
And to this, please do not tell me "Well if you're not happy with that, why haven't you bought it in an Apple store ?" 
Because 1) not everyone has 600-900£ to spend in one go
2) All carriers unlock their phones, I just didn't know that O2 wouldn't and as just mentioned, clearly wasn't going to as they really make sure you wouldn't be told about it.

02 decide when to unlock their iPhones not Apple.

Apple supply the unlocking information to 02 on request.

Have you read what I wrote ?
They tell customers that "Apple is the one not allowing them to unlock iPhone 5 yet" do you not see the difference between their argument and yours ?

Demand will be high both online and instores.

 

Why has this become such a focal point for you ?

Well, I didn't go to the extent of going to a shop with a hidden microphone on me, so yeah, I guess you'll have carry on assuming I'm making this up (coz you know, I just love spending my time here)

 

As for the "chat feature", yes I did use it and the latest written "proof" has been posted here, in this thread, a few posts up.

No mention of "high demand" anywhere, and as I said, I have only ever seen this argument on their main website. So yeah, back to my question : Why would Apple bully O2 UK like that ?

There is no logic to why O2 won't unlock.... Just like they won't roll out updates to windows, BB and android phones... complete mystery !!!!
