Hi. Last week I changed over from a Nokia to an iPhone5, both on O2.
Th 3G has never worked although my tariff confirms my data bolt on is activated. I checked at an Apple shop who tried a different O2 nano-sim and the 3G worked, so I know it's not the phone or the settings.
I asked at O2 for a replacement SIM which of course took nearly 24 hours to actually work but there is still no 3G.
The APN settings say idata and worked with Apple's SIM.
What can I do with O2 to force something to be done about this?

Hi,
I will tell you how it was in my case.
I tried to change the APN setting from idata into mobile exactly the same way how was it adviced before in this topic, I did it SECOND time, the only difference is I kept my phone off a bit longer.
Suprisingly, It worked.
No idea how to explain it

If the data bolt on is not a specific idata bolt on then only mobile.o2.co.uk or wap.o2.co.uk will give 3G connection.

O2 admitted on Tuesday that they had not set up the data properly. They said it would get done and take 24 hours. It's been 48 hours and it still doesn't work. Tryong to chat to them now and being advised to uninstall IOS6!
they now say the account is perfect, always has been, not their problem. And because it's been over seven days, I can't return it and cancel
if it's never worked, it's surely covered under the sale of goods act, isn't it?

just book an apple genius appointment if the phone is faulty it will be swapped there and then.
You cannot remove ios6 from an iphone 5 more chat lies!!!
If moibile works not idata apn then it is an account issue call 202 and talk to a real advisor.

Went to O2 in the Strand today. Great guru called Patric immediately spotted there was a problem with the account. Apparently, there was a bar on my 3G which needed some secondary system to be amended. He called HQ who said an update was actioned on Tuesday by the Bromley branch but still not done as it can take five days(!) to get sorted so just wait and it will all be OK maybe by Monday(!).
Anyway, for anyone else who has a similar problem after changing phone manufacturer, O2 have some very old crappy back-end systems. The quickest and most reliable method is to get your account de-activated and a new one created. Of course, I now have to wait until Tuesday to see if the account change will solve the problem.

Just like to say that after i purchased my Iphone 5 i was having exactly the same problem, my 3G would not work at all, i could only connect to the internet under my WIFI. But after coming accross this topic and changing my APN settings it works a treat! Quite annoying as every time i have to update the IOS i have to change my APN settings to get it to work but at least i know how to know so i wanted to say a BIG thanks!!

Already on an iphone contract, been to the o2 store and to the Apple Genius Bar twice who couldnt work out the problem, you think it might be worth ringing o2 up?
