I took my iphone 4s to Cyprus where it quickly lost network coverage.  I've spoken to O2 and the customer service rep thought it must be a sim fault.  Having come back to the UK and installed a new sim I'm still getting a No Service message.

 

I've read that some travellers run into issues with Turkish telecoms blocking foreign phones and I'm wondering whether I've ran into the same problem from Turkish Cypriot coverage picking me up from over the border.  Is there a simple way to resolve this?

I've read similar forum thread reports in the past but I'm finding it difficult to understand how a foreign mobile network who do not have access to your imei or iphone serial number can block your handset.

 

I've read that all UK handsets using a Turkish SIM have to be registered with the Turkish authorities. {I'm not sure if this is true.}

 

Something I personally wouldn't do.

 

One option is to complete the online unlocking form

If all else fails then i suggest you book yourself in with an apple genius bar to get the handset looked over.

If possible try your sim in another O2 or unlocked phone to see whether your account or iphone is at fault.

tbh I have no clue whether it can be blocked but my new sim activiation hasn't worked so there has to be another route to resolving the problem.

I'm out of contract soon and the service I've had from O2 has been weak at best and downright rude and aggressive when my iphone stopped hooking to wifi after an OS update. I'm going to take the pain of doubling up on contracts and get myself over to another provider because they're not offering any solution to this problem. Once you sign to the contract they know you're stuck.

02 Customer Services on 202 {contract} or 4445 {payg} will be able to check your account and ensure your sim activation is Ok
