Locked iphone

I bought a iPhone 3GS on Ebay(I know !). The description was unlocked but it seems to be locked to O2, getting no help from seller. Tried O2 but no joy. Anyone know how I can get this phone unlocked? I do not know the phone number that was used, but do have original box with all phone details.

Can you not take up a dispute with Ebay as the phone is not as it was described?

You have a definite case to raise a dispute with eBay if the phone was described as unlocked but it isn't. That's the route you should take.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

I have raised a complaint with EBay. But to be honest the phone is is very good condition and thought if I can get it unlocked I'm happy to keep it. Just thought there may have been an easy solution but does not look like there is.

You need to put an O2 PAYG sim in it and top up £20.00. Use no more than £5.00 to make calls & texts (making sure you have at least £15.00 credit left on the sim, fill in this form http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=Companion,question=ref(User):str(Mobile),C...

Or ask a person you may know who has the same sized SIM card on an O2 contract to put their sim in it, make a few calls so the imei of the iPhone latches to their account, and they fill out the unlock form as it's free to contract customers.

Let's hope it's not actually imei barred.

Just to be clear, do you want to use it on O2 or unlock it to work on another network?
