Iphone water damage

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have an iphone 4 on pay as you go, my cat has just knocked it off my knee into a cup of coffee :(, the top half went in, so no liquid got in through the charger bit, it now wont come on, ive put it in rice like many say, are there any other options, is there a chance of it working again as I bought it outright for £400+ and have no insurance!

Also just incase, does anyone know how much an iphone4 16gb is on pay as you go? I cannot find the price anywhere online, it just directs me to stores that have it in stock.

Thankyou

Danielle,

Depending on the Genius you get, they may be able to effect a repair on the spot. Some are very helpful whereas some want to take you down the "sell" route, straight away. These out of warranty repairs are an excellent idea for the public and do actually make money for Apple.

I recently witnessed a Genius ping open the back of an iPhone 4s, show the problem and fix it on the spot for free.

It all depends on what damage has been caused but with significant liquid damage, I would always swap it out.

Adamtemp is usally spot on with pricing, he is the type of guy to deliver bang on information, despite the fact he misses the occasional capital letter or punctuation. 😉

Well worth the drive you wil be in and out in 10 mins max.

As Adam says, booking is essential, but allow (a lot) longer than ten minutes. I have three times been to a genius appointment, and not been seen until 30-40 mins after the appointment time. Maybe I was just unlucky.

One of those was for an out of warranty replacement for £119. Doesn't matter what caused the problem, no questions asked.

All three appointments were at Meadowhall in Sheffield. Birmingham and Leicester are only slightly further for me...anyone know if they are less busy generally?

when i had to get my old iPhone4 replaced it was a straight swap and £119 later i had a new sim free iPhone4 with 3 month warranty - sold it 8 weeks later at a tidy profit towards my iPhone 5 grin

Cheers Adam.

I pop in, see that things haven't improved, then pop out.

I still admire the old-school team that keep coming back regardless. I take my hat off.

There are a significant number of O2 personnel that have appeared and have a massive post count in a short space of time. Makes me wonder whether they are now encouraged to fill the boards, whereas, in the days gone by we only had a couple and they tried to keep themselves anonymous.

All in all, there is an artificial feel about the place, almost as if some overrated American methodology has been applied to the management.

They can take as short a time as 10 minutes, some weeks ago my iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch (piled one on top of the other) fell about 2' to the floor - only damage was the iPhone corner hit the screen of the Touch and smashed it.  Genius appointment took less than 10 minutes including being escorted from front door to the genius bar.

The Touch costs around £149 to replace in this way (not sure why it is dearer than the phone).  I then contacted my contents insurers and got £99 of that reimbursed so worth the OP checking with her contents insurers if they will cover it.

One thing though, and I'm sure most of you know this, if you do get your phone wet dry it out first, don't turn it on, don't try and charge it, pop it in a bag of rice for 24 hours and only then test it out.  Ditto any other electronic item (including keyboards).

When I watercooled my pc years ago I had a leak which shorted out the motherboard. Dried it out still not luck:(

Found out you can essentially flush electronics with distilled water to try and shift any sediment that may be the cause. (Not de-ionised water!) then dry it out again it happily worked.

I am yet to try this with a phone. Motherboards I imagine to be much more complex.
Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong. So Ive been told wink
